CONTRACT RETENTION FOR CHARLTON HOUSE - AUG 08 The King’s Fund, an independent charitable foundation based in the heart of the West End in Cavendish Square, has retained Charlton House for a further three years. The independent caterer has held the contract since 2003 and the business is worth £800K in annual turnover. Charlton House will continue to manage a restaurant, café bar and full conference and events catering services for the charity. WELL BEING SHORT-LISTED FOR CATEY AWARD - JULY 08 The Charlton House healthy eating initiative, Well Being Being Well, has been short-listed for a Catey Award – the hospitality industry’s equivalent to The Oscars. Two Charlton House staff restaurants have won the coveted ‘Charlton House Unit of the Year 2008’ award. Land Registry Information Systems in Plymouth was named winner of the chef-managed category, while Legal & General Assurance Society Ltd in Hove, East Sussex, won the managed site category. Charlton House announced the winners at their annual conference at Wokefield Park in Berkshire on Saturday 7th June 2008. MANCHESTER CHEFS TAKE GOLD IN - MAY 08 Temperatures reached boiling point yesterday, Tuesday 20th May, as sixteen chefs from Charlton House staff restaurants throughout the Midlands, the North and Scotland gathered at Manchester Metropolitan University, Hollings Campus for the Charlton House Ready, Steady, Cook Challenge. READY, STEADY, COOK! - MAY 08 Sixteen teams of chefs from Charlton House staff restaurants throughout the Midlands, the North and Scotland will gather at Manchester University, Hollings Campus on Tuesday 20th May at 2pm for the Charlton House Ready, Steady, Cook Challenge. Charlton House has appointed Alison Gilbert as human resources director. Formerly head of human resources for the Baxter Storey Group, Gilbert joins Charlton House on 7th April and will be based at the independent caterer’s head offices in Berkshire where she will be responsible for the HR needs of 1,900 staff throughout the UK. Charlton House has been named winner of the Marketing category of the Cost Sector Catering Awards 2008 at a glittering award ceremony held at the Hilton London Metropole on Thursday 27th March.
Ashley Palmer-Watts, (The Fat Duck in Bray) and Colin Robson-Wright (The New Mill Restaurant) joined David Cavalier, food director of Charlton House, Mike Brown, Charlton House executive chef, and chefs from Baxter Storey, Novotel and Renaissance Hotels in judging the final of Young Chef 2008, which took place at Thames Valley University on Monday 3rd March 2008. City law firm, Speechly Bircham, has appointed Charlton House to manage catering services at its new corporate headquarters at 6 New Street Square, Holborn, London. The firm is due to move to its new premises in early May when a team of twelve Charlton House staff will oversee a staff restaurant and extensive hospitality services for the 200-lawyer firm. The three-year contract is worth £600K in annual turnover. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR - MAR 08Nico Prinsloo, former senior business development manager with Charlton House, has been promoted to the position of business development director. He joined Charlton House in 2001 as hospitality manager at P&O, and within six months became catering manager. In January 2003 he was asked to join Charlton House’s sales department where he quickly proved himself a talented and able member of the team. His new role officially starts on 1st April 2008. Charlton House has gained a catering contract with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Under a five-year deal worth over £3 million in annual turnover, the independent contract caterers have been appointed to manage catering facilities at four IET sites in London, Birmingham, Stevenage (Herts) and Glasgow. KEEPING UP WITH MRS JONES - DEC 07 Robyn Jones, co-founder and chief executive of independent contract catering firm, Charlton House, has been named one of the ten most influential business leaders within the hospitality sector during 2007 – and the only female to appear on the listing. Charlton House has gained a catering contract with the Department for International Development (DFID) in East Kilbride, Glasgow and in Palace Street, London. OFCOM OPTS FOR CHARLTON HOUSE - NOV 07 Charlton House has gained a catering contract with Ofcom, the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries. Independent contract catering company, Charlton House, has been ranked in fourth place in a survey of Britain’s top 50 companies within the hospitality sector - one place higher than last year’s. WOMAN LANDS PRIZE IN GOURMET CHALLENGE - NOV 07 Liz Parker, an account manager at Land Registry in Croydon, Surrey, has won the Charlton House Gourmet Challenge 2007. The 29-year-old from Croydon competed with 49 others in a food-based competition, organised by Land Registry’s staff caterers, Charlton House, at London Zoo on Wednesday 7th November. DOUBLE GOLD AT SALON CULINAIRE - OCT 07 Two Charlton House teams walked away with joint gold at the Charlton House National Salon Culinaire 2007, held at Westminster & Kingsway College in London on Saturday 6th October 2007. Central Berkshire Educational Business Partnership (CBEBP) is launching its Young Chef competition for the 11th consecutive year. The launch will take place at The White Hart Hotel in Nettlebed, Oxfordshire, on Tuesday 16th October 2007. Independent contract catering firm, Charlton House, is launching a new division to specialise in the public catering sector. CHARLTON HOUSE IN THE LIMELIGHT - SEPT 07 Charlton House has landed a leading role with Paramount Pictures, the internationally renowned movie producers and distributors. The independent catering firm has been awarded the staff catering contract at Paramount’s new international corporate headquarters in Chiswick. ROBYN JONES SUPPORTS WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT - SEPT 07 Robyn Jones, co-founder and chief executive of independent staff catering firm, Charlton House, is sponsoring the Sue Ryder Care Women of Achievement Awards 2007. The Awards are open to women in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire – the three counties supported by Sue Ryder Care - Nettlebed Hospice in Oxfordshire, which provides specialist palliative care to people and their families. Charlton House has managed the catering operation on site since 1999. NETWORK SUCCESS FOR CHARLTON HOUSE - AUGUST 07 Independent contract caterer, Charlton House, has been awarded another catering contract with Network Rail. This latest gain in Travis Street, Manchester brings the number of Network Rail sites in Charlton House’s portfolio to nine – a welcome business extension to the Mailbox site in Birmingham, Network Rail in Glasgow, five sites in London including the corporate headquarters of Network Rail in Euston, and one in Swindon. CHARLTON HOUSE SUPPORTS PARTY IN THE PARK - JULY 07 The bandstand in St James’s Park will echo to the sound of children at Daycare Trust’s Party in the Park on the afternoon of Tuesday, 31st July 2007 (2-4pm). The event, to which children from local nurseries and children’s centres have been invited, has been organised in partnership with the End Child Poverty Campaign to highlight the issue of child poverty. The 35-year-old was presented with her award at an Awards Dinner held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in London on 11th April 2007. CHARLTON HOUSE SALES DRIVE REACHES £6.5 MILLION Independent staff caterer, Charlton House, has clocked up £6.5 million worth of new business in the first quarter of 2007. The latest gain is a staff catering contract with BMW (UK) Ltd, worth £1 million in annual turnover. INDEPENDENT CATERER GAINS £1.9 MILLION CONTRACT Charlton House has gained a £1.9 million staff catering contract with the international legal practice, Norton Rose, at the firm’s signature office building at 3 More London Riverside, adjacent to the Scoop and City Hall buildings in the South Bank business district. CHARLTON HOUSE RETAINS 11P STATUS - Feb 07 Charlton House has achieved ‘Investors in People’ status for the ninth year in a row. The independent contract caterers first gained accreditation in 1997 when the company had just 194 employees and an annual turnover of £5.2 million. The company has grown at a phenomenal rate since then, with 1,420 employees nationwide and an annual turnover of £54 million.
