CHARLTON HOUSE APPOINTS NEW HR DIRECTOR - APR 08

Charlton House has appointed Alison Gilbert as human resources director. Formerly head of human resources for the Baxter Storey Group, Gilbert joins Charlton House on 7th April and will be based at the independent caterer’s head offices in Berkshire where she will be responsible for the HR needs of 1,900 staff throughout the UK.

Her background is in catering management; she started her career as a graduate management trainee, working initially with Lloyds Bank, and moved quickly into the position of operations director. She went on to manage major events business for the Mars Group, Sodexho and Compass until moving into HR approximately 14 years ago.

Commenting on her new role with Charlton House, Alison Gilbert said: “ My experience at the ‘coalface’ of the hospitality sector gives me a good insight into the daily challenges of running high profile catering operations, not the least of which is the on-going skills shortage. I can relate to the issues and opportunities that our managers face on a daily basis, and hope that my experience and knowledge of both HR and catering will give them the support they need. I am particularly pleased to be joining Charlton House with its leading, cutting edge reputation. The company has over 100 different employment contracts due to TUPE requirements so it will not be without its challenges!”

Our challenge on the hospitality side is to entice partners to bring client entertainment and fine dining back in-house. David Cavalier and his brigade of executive chefs will be making their mark by introducing Michelin-style food, which will be on par if not better than commercial restaurants standards
