Charlton House gaines National Assembly for Wales - Aug 06

The National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay has awarded its catering contract to independent caterers, Charlton House.

Charlton House will take over from the incumbents, Avenance, on 2nd September at the original Assembly Office and the stunning new Senedd building in Cardiff Bay. A team of 30 will provide substantial catering and hospitality services for approximately 650 on site each day, plus visitors and guests.  

Welshman, Tim Jones, co-founder and chairman of Charlton House, said: “This exciting contract gain gives us a flagship site in Wales. We were up against many of the multinationals in a lengthy tender process but our quality standards, our ethical approach to food in the workplace and our ability to support, improve and develop the catering operation won through in the end.

“It was important for the Assembly to find a catering partner who understood their objectives for the new Senedd building, which opened in February to great architectural acclaim. We were able to demonstrate our food and service standards at our T-Mobile contract in Merthyr Tydfil, but there were many more considerations, such as our use of local suppliers and local people. Our social and corporate responsibility was also assessed. No stone was left unturned, so we feel very honoured that the National Assembly for Wales has made this decision.”

The catering operation will involve managing a restaurant, a retail outlet, a busy public café and two Members Tea Room, one within the Assembly and the other in the Senedd, plus extensive hospitality and high profile events.
