Robyn Jones win Top Award
Robyn Jones, co-founder and chief executive of Charlton House, was named Food Service Caterer of the Year at the hospitality industry's equivalent to the Oscars, The Cateys, at a glittering award ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Tuesday 11th July.
Robyn was singled out to receive a Catey Award in front of an audience of over 1,000 leading restaurateurs, hoteliers, celebrity chefs and media.
She joins the ranks of famous food celebrities such as Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein and Gordon Ramsay, all of whom have won Cateys in the past.
Commenting on the award, Robyn Jones said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed. This is such a privilege and an honour, not only for me, but for ever single person who has helped to make Charlton House what it is today.”
Robyn started Charlton House from her spare bedroom in July 1991 with the help of a £2,500 redundancy cheque and £50 weekly Government enterprise allowance. Fifteen years on, Charlton House has a current annual turnover of £50 million, employs 1,350 people nationwide and has some enviable client on its books, including the corporate headquarters of Sony (United Kingdom) Ltd, BUPA and Network Rail.
“And she has done it all single-handedly,” said one of the judges. “She works really hard at it and is involved in every job. It is deeply impressive.”
Another judge commented: “With the financial performance to back up the rhetoric, she has built the business not through acquisition but through word of mouth and recommendation. That says a lot about what she stands for.
“She’s single-minded and has ploughed her own furrow in this business.”
Since their inception in 1984, The Cateys have celebrated the hospitality industry's highest flyers, strongest performers and the hottest brands. Now in their 23rd year, they have become a byword for quality, class and achievement.
