CHARLTON HOUSE IS WHERE WOMEN WANT TO WORK

Independent catering company, Charlton House, has appeared in The Times/Aurora Where Women Want To Work Top 50 listing, published in The Times today, 3rd October.

The TOP 50 is about providing insightful information about 50 of the UK’s most progressive employers, who had to prove themselves in five key areas: the opportunities that they provide women; having progressive, transparent cultures; an ability to celebrate diversity; an eagerness to embrace new technology to facilitate work-life balance; and a commitment to being socially responsible.

“We see this as a fantastic achievement to be featured alongside such high profile UK companies,” said Robyn Jones, co-founder and chief executive of Charlton House.

Robyn Jones established Charlton House with her husband, Tim, at the height of a recession in 1991 and on a £50 weekly government enterprise allowance. Her career started as a school cook, but she had the entrepreneurial flair and business acumen to see an opportunity to make a difference in what was then, and still is at the top end of the sector, a male-dominated world. Charlton House currently has an annual turnover of £67 million and clients include the corporate head quarters of BUPA, Sony (United Kingdom) Ltd and BUPA.

Charlton House’s two managing directors are female and three out of four of Charlton House’s business development team is female. 50% of the company’s operational and human resources staff is female. Over half (51.9%) of Charlton House’s entire 1,750 staff is female and 40% of the company’s catering managers are women.

In a sector where women were confined to the kitchen sink up to only a decade ago, in low paid catering assistants roles, we celebrate what women bring to the industry at higher levels.
