Corporate & Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is our company's backbone - enabling us to stand up tall and express our responsibility as members of the catering world.

Environment - ISO 14001, 18001 & 9001
As a company which is proud to be ethical, we always aim to minimise the impact of our catering practices on the environment. Our International Standards Organisation ISO 14001, 18001 & 9001 certifications - reflects our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint. We are currently working towards further accreditation for all our sites - demonstrating our management commitment to safe working practices. We similarly adhere to legal and ethical standards and seek to work with like-minded establishments.

Our policies are continually monitored and steer our approach towards:

  • The Environment
  • Genetically Modified Food
  • Organic Produce
  • Equal Opportunity
  • Food Wastage
  • Green Procurement
  • Purchasing
  • Animal Welfare

Environment - Our Initiatives
We believe that combining best environmental practice with good business sense mutually benefits:
  • Our clients
  • Our employees
  • Our partner communities
Catering requires transport, consumes energy and creates waste - all of which affect the environment. To minimise our impact on our world we diligently instigate site-by-site, environmentally-friendly initiatives including:

Choose to Re-use campaign - We re-use key items, like cups and coffee sleeves

Recycling Schemes - We manage full on-site recycling programmes and re-educate employees in environmental awareness

Reward Schemes - We give customers stamps for re-using and recycling and reward them with free eco gifts

Grounds for your Grounds – keeping your grounds green.

Give a little something back to your garden.
Coffee grounds are considered a ‘green’ compost material, if added to the garden they will provide it with additional nutrients, making it flourish!
We offer ‘GROUNDS FOR YOUR GROUNDS’ coffee bags for customers to take their grounds home to help keep things green.

Community and Charity

We support the following schemes:

Seeds for Africa - By selling Wellbeing, beingwell bottled water in 120 of our staff restaurants, we raise money for the charity, Seeds for Africa. They send seeds and
saplings to African communities, so they can plant their own sustainable organic produce.

Mary’s Meals -  is an international movement to set up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. An education can set a child free from poverty in adult life. We’ve been supporting this worthy cause since early 2010.

Lightforce International - We raised £13k and built Uganda's Charlton House School for Children

Sue Ryder Women of Achievement Awards - In Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire

Berkshire Young Chef - This is a local initiative to encourage young people into catering. We sponsor an annual competition to find the best young chef.

Connect Reading - We support businesses and public and voluntary partnerships, to raise local quality of life

Health and Safety
In Health and Safety we strive for the highest possible standards. Our especially appointed Head of Health and Safety, Reena Appadoo leads all our H&S activities. Providing business support, she ensures that occupational health and safety, food hygiene and the environment remain integral to our management systems and staff development programmes.

Reena updates us on all H&S legislation and industry best practice guidance to guarantee that our catering teams comply with legal requirements, risk management and due diligence.

She also works with our external safety partner, the European Safety Bureau, to oversee all our food safety practices and maintain the wellbeing of our staff, customers and other valued stakeholders.

The European Safety Bureau completes annual safety audits at all our catering units and advises on the high level strategic training of all our Operations Directors and Managers.

Our clients expect the best, so we deliver it.
